Quick News: Ways to Subscribe + Upcoming Newsletter

I’ve now put up a page with, yes, ways to subscribe! The link led to “coming soon” before, but now it works, and is here: /subscribe. (These include RSS, Bloglovin’ and…)

We’re starting a newsletter for Pursed Lips

newsletterI’ve been contemplating starting one but wanted to be completely happy with how it was set up, and planning on how I could deliver it on time, surely.

So it will start going out from between 2 weeks and a month, and will feature the best content from the week before its last. It’s just too hard for me to set up content from the same week I send the newsletter, which would mean either working the weekend or making sure I can finish in 1 day = ugh!

The good news is it will never be sent more often than once a week (even if sometimes it’s sent less often than weekly, which will happen from time to time).

*Update* 7am – & now the code + blog platform issues are fixed!

Subscribe below … or on the subscribe page any time.

SiteNews: 404 Page Article Suggestions Fixed

Ever since a script upgrade our handy 404 stopped properly suggesting links to read based on URL given (a lot of our old erroneous URLs were wordy) – I wasn’t sure how to fix it but I just put the time in and it’s working as well as ever!

P.S. A while back we also needed to fix our search function, and that’s been working for some time too – in case you needed to know.

I’m now working on making sure some wrong addresses are right to even better the site.

Common Cold Accessory: Not Hot

Two moms have invented “Sniffle Buddies”: *extra* mini sleeves upon which for kids to wipe their noses. Because that’s way better than wiping on a shirt sleeve. Oh yeah.

It’s a fashion disaster too scary to recommend imagining, but the worst part is these two new business partners also sell adult sized versions.

Ugggghhh. I don’t feel too well.

Read more about these mothers’ story or browse the Sniffle Buddy Shop.

IFB Links a La Mode: 10, 9, 8…

I am a little bit late to post this roundup, but I didn’t want to miss publishing these intriguing links, featuring yours truly…

The Countdown Begins

Edited by Dramatis Personae

The countdown has begun–not only until the end of the year–but until the end of the first decade in the 21st century.  That’s kind of amazing to think about.  Styletastic and Sway, Sway, Away! both look at fashion from the Oughts with two distinctly different visions. [the3st] interviews the founder of ModCloth, while Wicked & Whimsy reviews Closet Confidential (by the hilarious Winona of DaddyLikey fame!).

Since this will be my last edit of links a la mode for this year, see you all in 2010!

Links a La Mode; ’tis a time of Choices

ifb-choices

Choices, Choices!

Edited by Dream Sequins

At this time of year, even the smallest decision can feel like the biggest burden.  As holiday shopping season swings into full and relentless motion this month, the choices we make as consumers can often feel overwhelming.  This week’s compelling roundup of reading explores these choices from every possible angle and makes it clear that as bloggers, we should feel empowered, not overwhelmed.  Whether it’s writing about a specialty gift guide for a geek chic girl, choosing the perfect red lip color or even exploring the nuanced difference in quality between designer and mid-priced items, these choices are what make us unique and connect us as an independent fashion blogging community.

Finally our New Theme! “Artbook”

When we moved back to WordPress I wanted it to be quick so I could get to work, but I noticed a lot late that the free template I used (with some of my own graphics) had some spam in the credits. Ugh.

It was never near perfect either but this theme is totally my brain/design child so it’s almost completely customized to my whims.

One thing that’s missing & still to come are some hand doodles I made that will be pretty cool – we just haven’t set the scanner back up yet after the move.

Note that “CommentLuv” (links back to your recent post) is still not working & I’ve realized I had to contact their support, so I did and now it’s time for me to wait before it’s fixed.

So that’s all, very exciting for me. Now I feel like I can write & promote again with something beautiful to send visitors to.

Links à la Mode de Stockings

Fashion Pulse is thinking about stuffing stockings with great blog posts (of course not literally) while I yet again ponder how I am happier not blogging about shopping, coupons, door busters…….

Unfortunately I could not get a moment to submit my link during our hectic move, and I couldn’t post all week waiting for cable then fighting with my WiFi. Les sighs – hopefully I can pick the pace back up right away now though! Must work on a mode-link-worthy article. ;-)

(While coding the new layout, unpacking the printer, trying to find my rotary cutter and catching that Target holiday décor promotion … oh I still like to shop. :-D )

Now with my office / Internet heading toward perfection, let’s catch up on that reading…

Links à la Stocking Stuffers

Edited by Fashion Pulse Daily

This week, as I’ve been getting geared up for the holiday season’s shopping ( both loving and dreading it) via Black Friday and Cyber Monday, I couldn’t help but compare the posts to stocking stuffers. Why? Because it felt like a nice, sentimental hodge podge of little items that although different, still fit together into the the bigger equation, hence my new phrase, “Links a la Stocking Stuffers!” Although I jest, I love the variety of posts this week, from how to style and what to wear including Retro Chick’s guide to ’40s hair for holiday parties, CoolMamaStyle.com’s tuxedo jacket, The Coveted’s adventures in Century 21 and What to Wear’s Art Basel fashionable looks, to Prom Mafia’s run in with Black Friday and SwaySwaySway’s blissful tactics to keep your computer off on Cyber Monday.

As expected, there was a fabulous round-up of links in the forum as well, all worthy of your eyeballs!

Beyond Fashion

Edited by Retro Chick

This weeks Links à la Mode blows away any preconceived ideas of the narcissistic fashion blogger posting endless outfit photos and magazine shoots  by covering a huge array of topics. Ranging from Dream Sequins whimsical birthday tea party to High Fashion Girls detailed examination of racism in fashion magazines, these posts demonstrate what we’re capable of and the communities we can build.

Of course, being fashion bloggers there are also some great outfits to be found and our bloggers this week have looked at: movies, from Bollywood to Sci fi; their pyjama drawers; and even their cleaning cupboard in their ceaseless search to bring you fashion inspiration.

As ever there’s many more exciting links on the original forum thread

Enjoy!

Links a La Mode – Food for Thought

I’m getting back to posting Links a La Mode from the Independant Fashion Bloggers group! It’s not that I don’t love posting links to all. that. fabulosity, it’s just recently when I could only post from 2 to 8 times a month I didn’t want the front page to be mostly these entries.

But at least for a while I’m posting more again. Starting next week I will consider  any fitting/best posts to submit as well.

So on to the greatness. ;-)

Food for Thought

Edited by Ashe Mischief

This is my first time editing since I wrote Good Cop/Bad Cop: Participating in Links a la Mode.  Thank you all so much for making this my most pleasurable experience in editing yet!

I’m not sure if it’s because American Thanksgiving is a week away, or because the blogosphere is ablaze with Kate Mosses’ unforgettable quote, “Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels,” but either way, I’ve got food on my mind. This week, you brought me the best kind of food–rich, decadent, and 100% calorie-free!  That’s right–you delivered highly thoughtful posts on fashion, fashion blogging & communities, and more.

On a personal note, ferOHHHsh has asked that we share her post about her close friend’s near-fatal accident.  I believe that the fashion community is one of surprising strength, dignity, caring and compassion, and that it was worth sharing.  We’re sending your friend speedy thoughts for a wonderful recovery!
